8 Strategies to Make your Organization shine

Buildings of the World

Due to my interest in international preservation I have observed some of the activities and initiatives of cultural organizations around the world. In my observations I have noticed several strategies these organizations are bringing to their outreach plan. Below I have noted 8 ways the organizations have used to draw the surrounding communities to their facilities and participate in their missions.

  1. Build strategic partnerships with landowners/homeowners. Use products from local farms for daily food operations of the organization. This illustrates participation in sustainability and the green movement.
  2. Use of print media: In some instances, announcing a recently completed phase of a restoration. This highlights the design process and demonstrates to patrons where some of their generous dollars have been put to work.
  3. Consistently reporting on the organization’s activities in preserving or renovating their facilities using green building practices.
  4. Sharing interesting facts and nuggets of history about the organization throughout the year.
  5. Heavily promoting massive fund-raising campaigns through major news channels.
  6. Partnering with the tourism industry to enhance the appeal and encourage visits to the historic sites.
  7. Keeping key personnel visible to the public and reiterating the organizations stance on major issues and pushing forth the organization’s mission
  8. Putting out calls for volunteers through major media channels.

If you have additional activities your organization has initiated that have been successful as part of outreach I would love to hear about them.
