8 Strategies to Make your Organization shine

Due to my interest in international preservation I have observed some of the activities and initiatives of cultural organizations around the world. In my observations I have noticed several strategies these organizations are bringing to their outreach plan. Below I have noted 8 ways the organizations have used to draw the surrounding communities to their facilities and participate in their missions.
- Build strategic partnerships with landowners/homeowners. Use products from local farms for daily food operations of the organization. This illustrates participation in sustainability and the green movement.
- Use of print media: In some instances, announcing a recently completed phase of a restoration. This highlights the design process and demonstrates to patrons where some of their generous dollars have been put to work.
- Consistently reporting on the organization’s activities in preserving or renovating their facilities using green building practices.
- Sharing interesting facts and nuggets of history about the organization throughout the year.
- Heavily promoting massive fund-raising campaigns through major news channels.
- Partnering with the tourism industry to enhance the appeal and encourage visits to the historic sites.
- Keeping key personnel visible to the public and reiterating the organizations stance on major issues and pushing forth the organization’s mission
- Putting out calls for volunteers through major media channels.
If you have additional activities your organization has initiated that have been successful as part of outreach I would love to hear about them.
